People with substance use disorders often experience problems with their physical health and psychological disruptions as a result of their addictions.

Substance Use Disorder Medical Detoxification

When people decide to reach out for help, they usually contact a substance use disorder treatment program for help with their alcohol or drug problems. Once a person calls a substance use disorder treatment facility they normally connect with an admissions department or admissions specialists.

The admissions specialist will answer inquiry questions and discuss with the individual their alcohol or drug problems and concerns to get an idea of what is going on with the individual. If it is determined that the individual desires to enter treatment, then a discussion is shifted to a confidential pre-admission screening process which will help in determining the best rehab program for the individual.

After completing the pre-admission screening then a scheduled admission time is set, and the individual will decide to enter the treatment program that is best for their individual needs. This may include substance use disorder medical detoxification.

Medical Detoxification helps with the management of acute physical symptoms related to withdrawal syndrome. Certain people that have become addicted to addictive substances will require the assistance of a medical detox program to help elevate the signs of physical withdrawal symptoms.

Substance use disorder medical detoxification programs intervene in the withdrawal process and then manage the symptoms safely and effectively. The Detox Center is staffed by 24 medical personnel that manages the withdrawal symptoms and the overall detox process.

Substance Use Disorder Inpatient Treatment Programs

Inpatient treatment programs provide an additional amount of medical care and observation and management of the acute physical & psychological symptoms of withdrawal. The reality is some people who enter treatment require additional observation and medical care to stabilize their substance use disorders or they may have co-existing medical or psychiatric disorders that need to be stabilized before they can participate in other forms of addiction treatment services.

Substance Use Disorder Residential Treatment Programs

This level of care treatment is the most utilized of all treatment programs combined because it encompasses many different types of substance use disorder residential treatment programs. The 30, 60 & 90-day addiction treatment programs are the most common types of substance use disorder residential treatment programs.

Residential Treatment is a level of care treatment that can vary from one treatment program to another. Most residential treatment programs provide 24-hour-per-day access to physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and nurses at this level of care treatment.

The individual will normally be working with a substance use disorder counselor or therapist during this phase of treatment along with peer recovery specialists, sober coaches, or recovery advocates in addition to the typical support staff at the treatment center.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

This level of care treatment is typically utilized as a step-up or step-down type of treatment program. People that are transitioning to a less intense level of treatment will step down into a partial hospitalization program. They will be on-site for several hours during the day but sleep offsite in an additional location away from the treatment services. There is still a benefit of having access to a multidisciplinary team during the day of treatment, but the meeting frequency with clinical staff members is less with a partial hospitalization program.

Intensive Outpatient Treatment (IOP)

The intensive outpatient treatment program is the less intense type of treatment program from the perspective of frequency and hours of attendance. Normally the intensive outpatient treatment is a minimum of 3 days a week for three hours a week of group counseling. An individual will notice that the experience is like being at a medical doctor’s appointment that lasts for three hours. An individual must be able to remain abstinent from all addictive substances and not require medical detox services to participate in this type of treatment program.

The cost of the substance use disorder treatment program does increase with the longer duration of treatment, however the longer the treatment program the more time there is to work on problems and difficulties that disrupt the recovery process. The longer treatment creates opportunities to restore health and create healthy new coping skills to prevent a future relapse from occurring.

Substance Use Disorder Medical Detox Programs:

Most people only focus on the beginning stages of becoming alcohol or drug-free because they want the psychological pain, cravings, obsessions, and health problems to stop being disruptive. Which does need to happen, and acute withdrawal symptoms are stabilized during medical detox services.

However, the substance use disorder medical detox program has one primary objective is to detoxify the individual from the addictive substance and stabilize the individual by removing the toxic build-up of the addictive substances in the body system. If you need medical detox, you can call our admissions department and arrange immediate access to our medical detox program. It’s a good idea to plan for what you are going to do after medical detox and stabilization are completed. Most people choose to enter residential treatment in a 30-, 60- or 90-day drug rehab program.
