Summer Sky is celebrating Recovery Month in September 2022, and our treatment center is promoting the fact that treatment works. Millions of people across the United States and Texas are in personal recovery, and many of these people found personal recovery by entering an addiction treatment center. Treatment Centers introduce people to the recovery process every day, and if you need help with an alcohol or drug problem, Summer Sky can help you become free from addictive substances.
Early Recovery
Recovery is an active process that involves making lifestyle changes that promote healing from the damage created by a substance use disorder. During early recovery, individuals will learn ways to deal with intense desires to use addictive substances. Many people that receive addiction treatment are given an opportunity to learn coping skills for these intense desires.
Often people with a substance use disorder struggle with avoiding people, places, and things that encourage using alcohol or drugs. Identifying exactly how negative influences contribute to a higher risk of returning to their addiction is a primary goal of early recovery.
When a person is enrolled in an inpatient treatment program, they develop plans of action to address things that are considered a high risk to cause a relapse. If a person has a psychiatric disorder along with a substance use disorder, they are taught ways to address both disorders while in treatment.
Recovery Support Groups
A recovery support group is a beneficial group of individuals that provide psychological support during the process of recovery. Those that get involved in a support group report that they experience a smoother experience in staying clean and sober and are more likely to remain sober by participating in recovery support groups. Some of the most common support groups are listed below.
Common Recovery Support Groups
- Alcoholics Anonymous (AA)
- Narcotics Anonymous (NA)
- Cocaine Anonymous (CA)
- Rational Recovery (RR)
- Smart Recovery
- Dual Recovery Anonymous
Recovery Helps with Structure
Developing a structured plan of recovery is something that addiction treatment programs help with during the treatment process. People in recovery need structure in their lives, especially considering that a substance use disorder tends to disrupt a person’s daily structure.
Some people need more structure than others; however, creating a daily plan of recovery is very important for people in early recovery. In addition to developing a daily plan of recovery when a person is in treatment, they will design a treatment plan to help identify problems and solutions to solve their problems.
Family Involvement in Recovery
Family members and friends can be positive influences for people in recovery. The more a family heals together, the stronger the family is in recovery. Recovery can be beneficial for the family and the individual with the substance use disorder. Summer Sky offers a family program to help with this healing process. The more involved a family is in the recovery process, the more support the family can be for each other.
Community Involvement in Recovery
Each community in Texas and across the United States can play a huge part in making recovery possible for those with a substance use disorder. Encouraging people with alcohol problems to seek treatment is one way that your community can help others get into personal recovery.
Communities that support prevention programs, treatment programs, and recovery support groups play important roles in helping others in recovery. When a community gets involved, everyone wins. It’s a good idea to know about the resources in your community that help people with alcohol or drug problems. If you need immediate help for an alcohol use disorder or substance use disorder you can contact Summer Sky Treatment Center® at 1-888-857-8857.
What is National Recovery Month?
National Recovery Month (Recovery Month), is sponsored by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration (SAMHSA). Its primary objective is to help educate Americans that treatment works and that people do recover from addictions. Every September, recovery events, education, commercials, recovery celebrations, and national discussions take place all around the United States.

When people enter treatment more people are offered a second chance in life. Your recovery is a living example that recovery is possible.
