Residential Addiction Treatment Programs are substance use disorder treatment programs that people stay in while they experience treatment services. There are short-term residential addiction treatment programs and long-term residential addiction treatment programs. It’s important to consider that these types of rehab services are normally 30-day treatment programs, 60-day treatment programs, and 90-day treatment programs. These types of treatment programs are more comprehensive types of addiction rehab centers.

Partial Hospitalization Treatment Programs

Partial Hospitalization treatment programs more commonly referred to as PHP programs are designed to help people step down from a higher level of care or treatment service. These programs are utilized by people that do not meet the criteria for higher levels of care, but still need the assistance of the addiction rehab center but require less intensive monitoring through the addiction treatment process. People that utilize this type of addiction rehab service must be able to demonstrate the ability to remain abstinent from alcohol or drugs to participate in this level of care of treatment services.

Intensive Outpatient Treatment Programs (IOP)

Intensive outpatient treatment programs are often utilized by people that are transitioning from a residential treatment program or partial hospitalization level of care treatment. There are some people that enter addiction treatment from this point of service, however similar to the partial hospitalization or PHP level of care of treatment services an individual must be able to demonstrate the ability to remain alcohol or drug-free while attending this type of treatment service. Intensive outpatient treatment programs normally are set up as 6-week or 9-week programs.

To be considered for an Intensive outpatient treatment program an individual must be assessed by an addiction counselor or other qualified professional. The needs of the individual are considered during the assessment process to ensure an individual can maintain abstinence while in the intensive outpatient treatment program. Individuals that are experiencing withdrawal symptoms, or struggling with the inability to remain alcohol or drug-free, will be referred to a higher level of care or treatment services.

In some cases, individuals do choose to attend 30-day treatment programs instead of intensive outpatient treatment programs, because they perceive that 30-day treatment programs are a shorter duration of treatment programs. However, most 30-day treatment programs require a higher level of severity level for participation. It is a good idea to discuss your addiction-related problems with an addiction rehab center prior to deciding on which treatment program is best for your situation.
