Massage Therapy for Addictions, Texas Drug and Alcohol Treatment Center, Summer SkyMassage Therapy for Addictions

Individuals in the early stages of treatment often experience an uncomfortable transition period between their body and mind beginning the process of healing. Summer Sky uses therapeutic massages as a powerful adjunct to the treatment of addiction. The added benefits of massage therapy help with detoxification, withdrawal and abstinence.

During the treatment process an individual improves in the areas of physical, mental, emotional and spiritually by the healing power of therapeutic touch. Research has documented that physiological effects of massage on the body can decrease pain, diminished autoimmune response, enhance immune response, and increase alertness and performance.

The body uses the touch of the massage therapy to reduce cortisol, a stress hormone.  Research shows that a massage can decrease anxiety, depression, agitation, and cravings. For this reason we have found that massage therapy helps with the individual’s process of recovery while in treatment.

At Summer Sky, we have developed Therapeutic Activities to help enhance our drug rehab program.  This Texas-based program is a collaborative effort between both our Summer Sky staff and Tarleton State University.  Many of the activities are used to teach our clients how to have fun and work as a team without the need for chemical dependency.  Some of the recovery-based activities include Equine Therapy, ROPES course, Swimming at Tarleton State University’s Olympic size pool, bowling and movies along with other onsite activities.  With learning how to incorporate these qualities into everyday lives, our clients can carry on healthy relationships and can walk through fears while feeling a sense of accomplishment and success.
